Gentle Gel Cleanser · For acne-prone skin
Acne-prone skin gets scrubbed, stripped and dried out by almost everything sold to it. SKIN MATTERS Gentle Gel Cleanser does one job: it cleans your face without stripping it. pH 5.5. Sulfate-free. No scrub particles.
To be clear: this cleanser does not treat acne. It has no salicylic acid and no other anti-acne active. It is the gentle wash that goes alongside whatever treatment you or your dermatologist choose.

Everyone gets a spot now and then. Acne-prone skin is skin where pores clog easily and breakouts keep coming back.
Tick what sounds like you:
Three or more: your skin is acne-prone. A gentle cleanser is the right base. It is not the whole answer.
Acne starts inside the pore, with sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria. It is driven by hormones and genetics. It is not caused by a dirty face, and you cannot scrub it away.
What harsh washing does is damage the skin barrier. The barrier is the outer layer of your skin that holds water in and keeps irritants out. Stripped skin is red, tight and sore, and that makes existing spots look and feel worse. It also makes acne treatments harder to tolerate, because most of them are drying on their own.
So the cleanser has a supporting role. Remove the day’s oil, sweat and sunscreen. Do no damage. Leave the skin in good enough shape for the treatment to do its work.
| Belief | What is true |
|---|---|
| “Acne means my face is dirty.” | Acne forms inside the pore. Surface dirt is not the cause. |
| “The more I wash, the fewer spots I get.” | Washing more than twice a day irritates skin and does not reduce acne. |
| “Scrubs open up clogged pores.” | Scrubbing inflamed skin makes it more inflamed. |
| “If it stings, it is working.” | Stinging means irritation, not treatment. |
| Condition | What it does | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Heat and humidity | Sweat and sebum sit on the skin for hours | Wash after heavy sweating instead of letting it dry on your face |
| Pollution and dust | Particles mix with oil and sunscreen into a film | A proper cleanse at night, massaged for a full minute |
| Condition | What it does | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Helmets, masks and collars | Heat and friction along the chin, jaw and forehead | Wash those areas gently soon after. Keep straps and masks clean. |
| Hair oil | Oil travels from the hairline onto the forehead | Keep oil off the face. Cleanse along the hairline at night. |
| Hard water and soap bars | Soap reacts with minerals in hard water and leaves a residue | Use a cleanser that is not soap-based, and rinse well |
Everything below is printed on the tube. Each line describes what the ingredient does in a cleanser. None of it is an acne claim.
| What acne-prone skin needs from a cleanser | What is in the formula | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Oil, sweat and sunscreen removed without stripping | Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Coco-Glucoside, Decyl Glucoside | Mild, amino-acid, betaine and glucoside-based cleansing agents. Sulfate-free: no SLS, no SLES. |
| A barrier that holds up, especially if treatments are drying your skin | Ceramide NP | Strengthens the skin barrier and locks in moisture. |
| Water, because acne-prone skin is often dehydrated | Sodium Hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), Glycerin, Betaine, Sodium PCA | Humectants, which are ingredients that hold water. Hyaluronic acid helps prevent dryness. |
| Comfort on skin that is already irritated | Panthenol, Allantoin | Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) hydrates and soothes. |
| Skin that feels calm after washing | Centella Asiatica Extract | Calms irritation and redness. This is about how skin feels after cleansing. It is not a treatment for spots. |
| Smoother-feeling skin | Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract | Brightens, nourishes and improves texture. |
| No friction | Smooth gel, no beads or scrub particles | Nothing abrasive touches inflamed skin. |
If you need an active, it should come from a separate treatment product, ideally one a dermatologist has chosen for you.
A gel is water-based and light. It spreads without pressure, so you are not dragging your fingers over sore spots. It rinses off completely and leaves no creamy layer on the skin.
pH measures how acidic or alkaline something is, from 0 to 14. Healthy skin is mildly acidic at the surface, around pH 5. Soap bars are alkaline, often around pH 9 to 10, and washing with them can leave skin tight and dry. This cleanser is formulated at pH 5.5, close to the skin’s own level.
| Step | Morning | Night |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gentle Gel Cleanser | Makeup or water-resistant sunscreen remover, if you wore either |
| 2 | Treatment, if your dermatologist has given you a morning one | Gentle Gel Cleanser |
| 3 | Light moisturiser | Treatment, as advised by your dermatologist |
| 4 | Sunscreen | Light moisturiser |
Many acne treatments, including benzoyl peroxide, adapalene, salicylic acid and prescription medicines, can cause dryness, peeling and stinging, mostly in the first weeks. That is when a harsh face wash does the most harm.
A gentle cleanser does not replace the treatment and does not make it work better. It avoids adding to the dryness. Follow your dermatologist’s instructions on when and how to apply the treatment after washing. If your doctor has prescribed a specific medicated cleanser, use that one.
Twice a day. Add one wash after heavy sweating, such as a workout or a long ride with a helmet. More than that irritates the skin.
| Season | What changes | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Summer | More sweat, more sunscreen | Twice daily, plus one wash after heavy sweating. Massage for a full minute at night. |
| Monsoon | Humidity, sticky skin, damp towels | Twice daily. Change your face towel often and let it dry fully between uses. |
| Season | What changes | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Winter | Dry air; treatments feel harsher | Lukewarm water. Moisturise straight after washing. Tell your dermatologist if peeling gets worse. |
This is the section most acne face wash pages leave out.
If a face wash promises to clear acne on its own, ask what active it contains and at what strength. Ours contains none, and we say so.
Acne is a medical condition. It is common, it is treatable, and a dermatologist can do far more for it than any product on a shelf. Do not wait if any of these apply.
A dermatologist will tell you which treatment to use. Bring your current products, including this cleanser, and ask where each one fits.
These are individual experiences of using a cleanser. This product is not an acne treatment, and results vary from person to person.
No reviews from acne-prone customers yet. We are a new brand, and we publish only real reviews from verified buyers. If you have acne-prone skin and have used the cleanser, tell us how your skin felt after washing.
No. It is a gentle cleanser, not an acne treatment, and it contains no anti-acne active. It removes oil, sweat and grime without stripping your skin. For treating acne, see a dermatologist.
No. It contains neither, and no other anti-acne active. The full ingredient list is on the tube and on our ingredients page. If you want those actives, use them as a separate product.
Generally yes, since it is a mild cleanser with no actives of its own, but ask your dermatologist. Acne treatments often dry the skin, and a non-stripping cleanser is the usual companion. If your doctor has prescribed a specific cleanser, stay with that.
Because the wrong cleanser makes things worse. Harsh face washes and scrubs leave acne-prone skin dry, red and irritated, and that makes treatments harder to tolerate. A gentle cleanser keeps the skin clean and comfortable so the treatment can do its job.
No. Twice a day is enough, plus once after heavy sweating. Washing more often irritates the skin and does not reduce breakouts.
Stop using it and see how your skin responds over the next two weeks. This cleanser has no exfoliating active, so it is not the kind of product associated with a “purging” phase. New spots can have many causes, but if they began with a new product, pausing it is the sensible first step. Write to us at contact@myskinmatters.in and we will help with your order.
We suggest you do not, on acne-prone skin. Scrubs and brushes add friction to skin that is already inflamed. Fingertips and 30 to 60 seconds of light massage are enough.
